The following day, all hell broke loose, there were a couple of tough guys up from South Africa, one of them a real hard nut, with an enormous chip on his shoulder, he threatened to hurt all of those responsible, and if I remember quite rightly, " I'll cut your fackin bollocks off and feed em to you" !! Let's just say, nothing quite that drastic happened, it all blew over quite nicely, even poor Doug started to fend off the wolf pack, by saying, he actually liked his " monk hair and one missing eyebrow". To be honest, he was a few biscuits short of a tin and I think he really meant it.
We had amazing times there in the sun. We did , of course everything you shouldn't do, or were told not to do, but that's where we first cut our teeth. I remember meeting a really nice guy, aged about 20, he was Brazilian, a great smile and personality but he couldn't speak a word of English. He followed us around and took part in everything we did, smiling and charming the girls....silently, with his body language and his eyes. We played quite a lot of sports. Football (soccer) volleyball, basketball, tennis, but it was at football our Brazilian wonder really shined. Man he was awesome, cheeky little flicks of the ball, skills we could never even dream of.. all more or less done in silence. We shouted and screamed, like we were pro's, taking the piss out of people who mis-kicked or did something daft, not Dio, our Brazilian wonder boy, he was just so slick, everyone wanted his skills, his tanned looks, his women, he was a real Adonis, in silence though remember. The point of this is just to ram home, that living in a foreign country can still have rewards and still fulfil ones dreams and wishes. Dio had the time of his life. He picked up a lot of English enough so we could eventually chat with him. He had the time of his life there, football, beer, shaggin in the bushes, trying to be cool, ( he was naturally cool). Wonder where he is now, today? maybe he settled down and became a bricklayer, who knows. I just want to say, language barriers need not stop ones goals....it didn't stop Dio's
