Well firstly I want you to think about this; Imagine living in a foreign land. working with foreign people, speaking the native tongue, living the foreign life. It might sound to many like an "I would love to do that", but let me tell you this; it is nice, great, fantastic and exciting and many other adjectives too, but at the same time, it is very difficult, a pain in the butt and the most horrible thing since that bad nightmare many years ago.
I speak from personal experience, having left my native land when I was just 19 years old, to venture off out into the unknown, well at least unknown to me. I was a puppy, a baby, "still shitting yellow" as a good friend once so eloquently put it.We didn't know the story, we didn't even know the score about girls, but one thing is for sure, we soon grew up very fast, we soon grew wings and flew, we turned into men and the girls turned into women... well some of them did.
The sun beat down on us during the day time, we worked in fields picking tomatoes, peppers, we worked in banana plantations, getting those 6 foot 7 foot and 8 foot bunches onto our shoulders. If someone had said to me that bananas grew in bunches and were part of a much bigger kind of bunch, I could have appreciated that. It's not until you actually see a big bunch that you realise just how big and heavy they can be.
Working out in the sun was great. We had good tans, we ate lots and lots of fruit and vegetables every day, and our social life was second to none. We partied like we invented them, our games got crazier and more extreme for every new party, people went beyond good manners and tact, to outright disgracefulness. I dont need to go over in detail, suffice to say half a head of hair, 1 eyebrow and testicles shaved and doused in aftershave, whilst the "victim" was still in his half drunken sleep . I can only hold my head up high, put my hand on my heart and say "not guilty of that heinous crime" !!
I was there oblivious to the goings on...... until I and everyone else, I presume, in the northern hemisphere heard the dreadful wailing scream of a grown man in somewhat sheer discomfort. Poor poor Doug. .......................
